RODRIGUEZ, RIZAL — Barangay Wawa is blessed with its four magnificent hiking destinations that share a common trail since it opened to the public years ago. Mountains like Binacayan, Pamitinan, Hapunang Banoi, Sipit-Ulang and as far as Ayaas’ trails begin at the tourism center of the small barangay.
According to one of the local tourist officers, average weekend visitor arrivals ticketed from 300-400 then swells up to 600 during long-weekends.
During our visit last month in Hapunang-Banoi, we’ve encountered many long queues for every picturesque spots up to the summit. From our trail, we can also visibly see a long queue of people in Mt. Pamitinan’s congested trail.
Maybe it’s time that we consider other hiking spots near Manila?
Do you think it’s time for the authorities to step in and regulate the number of hikers in these mountains?
